Already been suggested, but the little swimming goggles really do the trick. I do a lot of cooking with my special ed. class and when we cut up onions they all fight over who "gets" to cut up the onion because they think wearing the goggles is funny. It does work like a charm though....try it!

the only way that i have been able to have less watery eyes is to keep the onion cold and wash it and the plate and the knife when cutting it. like when you chop of the ends then take off the skin wash the knife and onion in cold water and what ever you cut it on. it helps quite a bit but not if they are to green.

When using a cutting board leave a little water on the cutting board, wet your knife and rise your onions after peeling the skin..... keep a damped paper towel close by and dab your eyes.... the water soaks up the juice in the air caused by the onions.... it also depends how fast you are as well in cutting them....
I do this all the time and it works for me..... if you are cutting numorous onions do the same routine for each onion...
if it is a big onion run water thru your knife.... when cutting it in fours.... depending on how you want your onions cooked...
Hope this helps....

Make your kids cut them and then tease them because they are crying...
Actually, No.. I have tried everything... breathe through your mouth, nose, put bread in your mouth, etc. The only one that does work, is wearing contacts. I do not wear them, but my husband does and he never has a problem cutting onions.
Oh and you can also take out the heart of the onion.. the bigger part in the very center. That is where most of the juices are. That does cut down on the watering eyes.

The only two ways that I have found that work are (1) if you keep your mouth closed and (2) if you cut it under water. I have also heard that if you cut it from the bottom (the root part), it is suppose to not make you cry. I prefer the first method.

Wear a plain spectacles, or soak onion in water. In second option onions will loose its taste. Hence first is best.
