Just wondering b/c I travel there quite a bit and was wondering where the best place is. It is a pretty good gift for people who have never been there.

This all depends on where you are going. For the least expensive price, if you are in Chittenden or Franklin counties, pick up a free copy of Buyer's Digest and look at the listings for syrup. Most of the local farms advertise in there and will have far lower prices than the pricier maple stores or sugar shacks.

Alternately, if you are near or in Essex Jct. Go to Ray's Barber Shop on Rte. 15. Ray sells it for the cheapest price around most of the time.

Downtown Burlington (Vermont's largest city) probably has the best selection of maple syrup since all the vendors congregate there to sell their maple syrup and related products. The smaller towns will sell the locally harvested maple syrups, so it all depends what is convenient for you. I used to live near there and Burlington has many many shops with the sweet product. good luck.
