She had a sprain in her ankle and shes fine.. The only problem is, The ER that I went to was DISGUSTING!!!!!!. It had dust near the oxygen valves, crusted blood on the boarders of the walls and IV poles, stains and holes in the walls, the strechers were black and filthy underneath and it disturbed me that the doctors work in this and the patients and families dont see this.. It was in the Pediatrics dept that made it worse. Anyway, I wrote a letter to the Board of Health and The Administration dept of the Hospital. I know the easiet thing for me to do is say that Im not going to bring my kids there anymore and ignore it, but something has to be done.. At least for our children. Do u know what other measures I could take? I almost wrote a letter to the mayor!!!. Its a hospital in Brooklyn.. in a inner city neighborhood, but thats not the point... what would u do?

Wow that is bad....I know the ER is usually a bit more dirty but thats sounds really gross. There is actually a board that certifies hospitals called JCAHO who you could let them know that it is not in good condition, see link below for more info. But I am not sure that every hospital has to be certified by them but it is worth a shot.

The steps you took were proper. The only thing I would do is call the administrative dept of the hospital after they have had time to read your letter. Let them know of your complaints and that you were the one who wrote the lettter. As a patient and a member of the community, you have the right to a response from them as to what is being done to correct this. If you still don't think steps have been made to clean up the ER, there's always the local news station.

I have heard similar stories about other "inner city" facilities of this type !! It is totally unacceptable !! I would write any and every body that I could think of and create a stir that they couldn't ignore until somebody's butt was swinging from a yardarm somewhere !!
With garbage like this in existence within this country-- How can people take a look at ANY third world country and talk about how sad and horrible the conditions and situations are !!! It is becoming more and more so HERE and its long overdue at this point that something gets done about it !!!!!

You made a good start.

Write that letter to the mayor. Consider writing letters to the editors of your local papers: The more light brought to bear on what you saw- Which is inexcusable- the better!

Good luck!

Talk to yor local news or newspaper about the problem. The hospital can't afford to lose patients (customers) and they will, for money sake, fix the problem.
I'd be grossed out too.....
