My fathers birthday is coming up and I want to buy him wine. I know he likes white wine. I know nothing about wine at all, and need something around thrity dollars to spend on it. ( He's turning 57)

He seems to favor the Chardonnay I think, I don't want to ask and blow it.

I would recommend Rombauer Chardonnay....this is a great oaky Chardonnay that is known for its quality.

Well, if you believe that he is partial to Chardonnay, may I suggest St. Suprey Chardonnay. It is absolutley amazing! However, if yopu are unsure of exactly what he would like and don't want to "blow it", perhaps you could give him a gift card for a liquor store/vineyard and go with him to learn what he likes, and perhaps you could both do some kind of a tasting to help you learn more about wine, and maybe he will find something else he enjoys too!

Well, how about I give you some good Vineyards, and you can go with one of their white wine's after you find out his favorite type (Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, etc...)

Stag's Leap
Caymus
Sterling
Raymond Reserve
Cain

Try some of those, they are decent wines...also, the French have really nice sweet wines:

Sauternes <-- awesome, sweet wines. If he likes White and Sweet, get one of these! Strongly recommended. The french have a way with these.

My favorite white wine is Conundrum by Caymus. Depending on where you buy it the price will be about $22-$28 so you should be able to get it in your price range.

My favorites are Riesling, for sweet wine, and Chardonnay, for dry wine.

There are so many brands of white wine. You answered your own question by saying you know he likes white wine so buy him the kind he buys all the time and he will be very happy.
