Something that "doesn't make sense" always seems to be more hopeless than something "not readily understood."

If I were to say "This doesn't make sense" could mean either "I don't understand this," or "This is logically impossible." It depends on the context.

You could say to your manager: "Your decision doesn't make sense," meaning "I understand your decision and circumstances surrounding it, but it does not seem right, rationally." There would be notions in conflict. To say you don't 'understand' means that maybe it could 'make sense', provided additional details were supplied.

It makes sense, when it is logical. When a certain action follows a reason, then it makes sense and is therefore understandable.

Anybody's understanding is subjective, depending on one's capacity to understand. But an understandable action sits on a solid foundation... logic or reason.

Example:

His decision to study and become a lawyer makes sense, if he wants to become a lawmaker.

His signing the contract with Company A makes sense, it is more stable than the rest and the profit we expect from this deal this year is higher.

I am planning a meeting with all of the executives and their secretaries, at 8:00 am in the Great Room. Bring something to share, or drinks. Does that make sense to you?
