I found a sample wedding dress on sale that I really like. I would need to make adjustments to it to let out the waist. I heard that the previous seams may be hard to remove. Has anyone tried letting out a satin gown before, and know if they saw any marks? Thank you!

It will depend on the type of satin used in the dress. Some satins will leave the hole where the needle punched through, even after steaming it and everything. Some won't. Ask a dressmaker or someone who is VERY familiar with fabric to be sure.

Also realize, the seams you're talking about are on the sides of the dress, and even if minor holes are left, they will be all but unnoticable. The dress is lined (probably), so you'll have the lining, and if it really bothers you, wear a white longline bra under the dress. Then no one will notice, I promise. Unless, of course, someone has their eyes about 2 inches from your armpits....LOL

If done right it will not show the seams. You can make sure that either yourself or a professional seamstress does the work on the dress that way you can make sure that the dress doesn't have the seams showing. But it's not hard to remove the previous seams.

Satin does show the seam marks. Holes are left when the needle punches through and the thread pulls on it.

You will need to 'steam iron' the seams out. Be patient and do not use too hot an iron. You can buy products that will help with this ~ Like a fabric softener spray.

Good luck :)

Thats a hard one because satin isn't like other fabrics. I would think that It would leave holes from the stitching.
How about figuring out a lace or another piece of fabric to cover that section but still be stylish..ask your seamstress

ask the seamstress that will be altering the dress, it seams like after it it cleaned (and steamed) the old seams would not be noticeable

you can have them pressed out. If they stay you can always have a lace ribbon sewn over it
