Rain water is pure if you don't contaminated it. Here is a link to instructions for various methods for purifying water. http://www.doh.wa.gov/phepr/handbook/purify.htm

If you have enough space, you can set up a distiller. Take your water, put it in the middle of a clear plastic pyramid (just use a pole in the middle of a clear tarp or plastic sheet, let it evaporate, condense on the plastic, and run into a collection ring around the outside rim of the pyramid. Then you will have clean water, assuming that your collection containers and plastic are clean. Otherwise, I would suggest buying a water filter that can clean out microbes and chemicals (expensive yes, but your water will very safe to drink)

Either buy a water purifier (not that expensive. maybe somewhere around 30 bucks) or boil the water. That should do the trick.

try purification tablets like the ones used in the military. This will quickly purify several gallons at a time.

One of the most simplest way is to add an EXTREMELY SMALL amount of Chlorine to the water. Even a drop too many can KILL immediatley, it is a powerful disinfectant!
Or if you couls spare money, get a filter, attach it to a sink or filter stored water.
