Sit in a nice warm bath as often as you can during the day. Hemorrhoids are blood vessels that are over loaded with blood & the blood may have clotted. It's like varicose veins.
Preparation H does help to shrink them & numb the pain. If they don't go away, see your doctor.

It shrinks the vein - which is about as good as you can get without steroids or surgury. A hemmorhoid is varicous vein in the rectum. Creams cant heal broken valves on veins.
Witch hazel (try to find one that is alcohol free or it will sting) does indeed help.
