In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

The first tool in spiritual warfare is Prayer.
We have gone into neighborhoods that have ambulances coming in and out like buses. Before we meet in that neighborhood I go for a walk around the block praying for the safety of our people and those whom we are teaching. We have yet to have an incident involving our people or those we teach while we were there.
Many ministries that go into foreign countries hostile to the faith take a prayer teem that are enclosed in a nearby building or room praying during the entire event.

You don't fight satan God does. All you do is endure until the battle is over. In between that place where it feels nothing is happening.. where you can't seem to get the break through.. as the heat turns up, when it becomes too much to bare. That is the place of victory. That is the place the lord moves mountains. When you think he is no where to be found. that is where he draws to you the most. I just came out of a trail where the Lord took me from one place to the next. I know now that he is the one that fights the fight for us. We are enduring through and standing in Victory. we just dont know it becuase we are caught up with the sistuation at hand. When Jesus died on that cross he won the victory for us. It is already done . And when the devil comes to destroy us. He is coming up against us but the Lord is the one who fights him. He looses everytime. We win . The Lord is victious and we are in him. I can do all things through Jesus christ who strenthns me. It is a bible verse. Just remember when you are going through that hard time. That is where you need to be. When it becomes too much to bare. .Believe me the Lord is there as your sheild and covers you from harms way. Even if it doesnt seem like it. Endure and you will over come . God bless you Jesus loves you

Ephesians 6:11-18
11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

Hello again China. If you stand with Christ, then satan will flee from you. There are times that you are tempted but he can not force you to take the temptations and GOD will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can take according to the scriptures. Have a great evening!
Thanks,
Eds
EDIT:
Dze has had some great answers today. This is another of them in my opinion.

Scripture. Like Christ did in the desert. From Experience that is what works best....what you don't know by heart read from the word....Ephesians 6 tells us about the armor we wear and the shield of your faith will extinguish all the fiery darts of the enemy.

The traditional "pie in the face" is always good.
But I've found that full and active participation in the work, worship, sacraments, and devotions of the Catholic Church is much more effective, and nearly as satisfying.
