Interesting question.

My first response is that it doesn't match the couch, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that it doesn't match the lamps either.

Seriously though, I would enjoy a portrait in that manner, otherwise, I just don't hang portraits of people I don't know in my house- even if it is the Mona Lisa.

Here's a question to add to your question...

Would like a portrait of you or someone special painted like the Mona Lisa (just the style, as it would be a little scary if you looked like the Mona Lisa, although I have heard that everyone has an identicle double somewhere in the world, but let's just assume that it's not the Mona Lisa, but that the painting actually resembled you, then would you want it? How much would pay for it? What if you had to sit for the portrait like in the olden times? Would that add to the value as it would be more rare and authentic?)?

I would like THE Mona Lisa, not just A Mona Lisa.

Not for it's beauty (I'm sure photographs don't do it justice), but so I can sell it and buy paintings I enjoy, but are less expensive (no dogs playing poker, though)

Personally, I would and I wouldn't.
I would like it in my room because, yes it is a fine piece of art as well as a famous piece of art.
Reason why I wouldn't want it in my room are:
1) It's massive
2) I am an Art major, but The Mona Lisa just isn't my cup of tea.

i certainly would.... but it is so grand, as many other paintings from Da Vinci or Michelagelo, that they belong into a museum. Not even Gates or Buffet or Slim would want it, if it were up for sale I believe.... those paintings belong to humanity. nevertheless..... you can always get a very good reproduction or a high quality poster if you love it so much
but modern paitings are more in synchronicity to the actual world, don't you think?

i would never hang a real, da vinci MONA LISA in my room, but if it was the Duchamp version (the one with mustache, called L.H.O.O.Q), then i would probably think about hanging it in my room :)

No thanks... I find the painting to be very disturbing even if it is a well known piece of art.
