Yes, absolutely. I would suggest using distilled or bottled water to prevent any off flavor from the tap water. Even easier is to fill a rocks glass with ice and keep drinking Jack on the rocks until its watered down... of course by then you might be drunk, but there's no harm in that either. :-D

I say a little distilled or bottled water in your J.D. won't take away the taste if the right amount is put into it. I would think the flavor would be better if you put just a splash into it. I personally like mine on the rocks; slightly watered down by the ice makes the flavor more soothing to the senses.

I've seen it done, so I know that nothing terribly bad will happen if you try it. Many scotch drinkers put a little water (maybe 5-20%) into their scotch because they say it helps the flavor come out better. Try it with a very little water first, then a little more, until you find a dilution that you like.

If you dont like Jack on the rocks, dont bother mixing it with water, you still wont like it. If you are looking for a smooth mixer then use ginger ale.

Of course you can add water. It will just taste watered down.

Sure you can, but I prefer it "neat" straight with no ice or water,

Yes, but if you have an expensive bottle like "single barrel", I definitely wouldn't ruin it by adding anything.
