Honestly, I don't think there will be any problem at all, so just confirm with the airline twice, then just don't bother to worry. Hawaii, is very laid back and you will have a wonderful time.

You don't need your passport because you won't be passing through any customs areas. But you do need good ID to get on a plane, and if that ID is your passport, then take it with you. You must have one to be here in the first place, so what would be the problem with taking it along as your ID?
