Does the FFL just deal with selling and trafficing firearms, or do I also need to get it to purchase a firearm?

An FFL is a Federal Firearms License, its for people who deal in firearms (buy and sell, as in a business).

Depending on where you live there may be state requirements (a state permit), but for the most part, you simply need a for of identification and be free of disqualifying offenses.

Check the NRA site for local requirements:

http://www.nraila.org/

Or simply visit our local gun shop, police, or sheriff office and ask what the requirements are.

No YOU don't need the FFL, but you need to go through a dealer that has an FFL.
FFL stands for Federal Firearms License, so if you want to deal in firearms as in owning a gun store or a pawn shop then you need to get one to transfer arms legally. Just to purchase a firearm you do not need one.

Purchasing a gun online requires that it be shipped to a FFL. You do not need a FFL to purchase a gun. In most states, if you are 18 (19 in some cases) you can walk into any Wal-Mart or other store and buy a shotgun or rifle right away. You fill out some paperwork and that's it.

You need a permit to purchase a pistol and the waiting period is 5 days or so depending on the state.

Add details to your message and tell us what state you live in to get more detailed responses.

You have to buy your gun from someone who has an FFL. You don't need one. You only need an FFL if you plan to be a firearms dealer.

If you buy a gun online or out of state, you have to have your gun shipped to someone with an FFL. Then they'll do the background check and you pick up the gun after the waiting period. Same goes for if you're selling a gun to a friend. You need to go through an FFL dealer.

IT really depends on the state and how they interpret the Brady Bill. My state allows you to purchase long guns (everything but pistols) with nothing more than a background check. Pistols (referred to in legal terms as "concealable firearms" in Missouri) require you to get a permit to purchase a concealable firearm from the sherriff of the county in which you live. This piece of paper must be taken to the dealer to obtain the firearm you wish to purchase and requires the serial number of the gun. So... you go to the dealer... buy the gun. The dealer fills out a paper with the make/model/serial number. Then you go to the Sherriff's office, give them the paper. They give YOU a different paper to take back to the dealer.

And then you get to take possession of the firearm. Notice... tihs is NOT a permit to CARRY a gun concealed. That requires a class and certification in MO. Check with your state. (Also... the firearms dealer can tell you exactly what you need to do when you go pick out your gun)

No, the FFL is the dealer's license to do business in firearms. You do not need one to purchase a gun.

For a Store transaction in Your state, or buying from a private citizen in your state No. Some states allow you to buy a guy in a state that border yours too.

You only need a FFL to be in business. There is a Collector's FFL that enables one to to purchase guns out of their state via phone/internet/mail but that is limited to guns over 50 years old or with special historic value.

If the rifle is bought from out of state, or should be shipped, it has to bypass to a FFL If the employer and your self are citizens of an identical state that the pass happens, then a head to head pass is legal. No place of work work is needed. even nevertheless specifically situations a employer will choose to jot down a bill of sale.
