The Allied armies sailed (and flew) across the English Channel and landed in France to begin driving the Germans out of the occupied countries of France, Belgium, Luxemburg, and the Netherlands.

It started on June 6, 1944.

D_DAY, JUNE 6 19 4 4 was the day when many AMERICANS gave their life to their country, they went to France to liberate the french people from the Nazi's. Arriving at certain points in the french coastline,[ there were beaches code named, Juno, sword, Utah, Omaha, and [ i believe gold]. The Germans knew that an attack was coming, yet, did not know at what beach it would happen, They thought it would occur at the point that is closet to Britain., but they were wrong. ROMMEL was in charge of the defenses, but was at home with his wife,[ it was her birthday]!..Close to 3,000 American lives were lost due to the Germans firing almost point-blank into the Americans as they arrived on the beaches. It was a slaughter!, Yet ,god bless them, those guys kept going towards the beaches..We had to get a 'foothold' on France, and Normandy was about the only viable place to do this. Some beaches were a cake walk, others were nothing short of being a slaughterhouse! We finally got through, established a command post on NORMANDY , and branched out from there. It took the Germans a moment to realize that this was not just to delay them for the attack that was coming from somewhere else, and when they did they fought back tooth and nail. But it was all in vain. Even ROMMEL said that if the Americans get a foothold on the beaches, the war is lost, he was right!

the allied invasion of Nazi controlled Europe. The Americans, British, Canadians, Australians and other nations stormed the beaches of Normandy, France. It was successful, but we did however lose a great number of lives.

D Day was the beginning of the invasion of Normandy. Thousands of American, British, and Canadian troops landed on beaches and parachuted in the fields of German occupied northern France.

D-Day refers to the day of an assult
H-Hour refers to the hour

But the "D-Day" was when the Americans attacked Normandy and Adolf Hitler's sea wall. The most known beach was Omaha because they had the most casualties.

P.S. We also dropped paratroops behind their lines 12 hours before H-Hour.

Pay attention in class next time.

Or... rent Band of Brothers... just the first few cd's... that'll get you through D-Day... Or there's an old black and white movie... with John Wayne.. I think CALLED D-Day... or there's always "Saving Private Ryan"... in the opening scenes, they're in the amphibious tubs... landing on the beaches of Normandy...

Gotta love the Navy... when my Marines need to go fight a war, the Navy's always really good about giving them a ride.. :)
