Is it in your mouth or on your lip?
If it is in your mouth, make mix a TBS of sea salt with a 1/4 cup of water. Use it like mouth wash and heavily swish in your mouth, then spit out. Do this several times a day.
If it is on your lip, go to the drug store and check out some of the over-the-counter lip medications in the cough/cold section.
Also, if it is on your lip, once it turns into a scab...do not pick it off! Let it heal at it's own time, as it'll take FOREVER to heal if you pick it off. I know this is hard to do, because the scab is the worst part (and isn't attractive), but you got to do it. If you've had the scab for over a day or so, after showering, take a warm wet washcloth, and gently dab your sore with the wet cloth. The scab may loosen up.
Good luck...best thing is patience with the dang thing.

Cold sores are caused by a virus, and viruses do not like heat.
Apply a hot spot of a towel soaked in running hot water from a sink to the coldsore, that will kill the virus immediately. Do this for about 5 minutes with repeat applications. If done at night, when one awakens the cold sore inside a mouth will be healed because the mouth heals so rapidly. If on the facial skin, it will be well on its way to healing.

I hate those dang things! If it's a small one, you can rub toothpaste into it to dry it more quickly. Do not, however, apply another treatment along with toothpaste, as it may caue your skin to burn! I tried "Abreva" once, but it made the thing much worse!? I swear by blistex , it seems to make it go away faster, but you're still stuck w/ it for about a week or so.
