There are two main ways to say hello in French. They're used in different settings, however. To say hello to someone you don't know personally or you just met, you say bonjour (bown jewr). To say hi to someone you know well or at least their first name, you say salut (pronounced saloo).

It is "bonjour." Haven't you watched Beauty and the Beast (Disney versions)? There is a song in the beging of the movie where all of the townspeople are saying "bonjour" to each other and it takes place in France!

Bon jour was quite easy

the French also use something called salut akin to American "Hi"

Salut, Paul - ca va?

(Hello Paul - how are you)

Salut Angela, ca va bien!

(Hello Angela - I am well or fine)
