Gymnastics should limber her up enough to do well in ballet. If you are waning this to be long term them you should have her in something that is natural to her.

The dance studio my daughter goes to has an introductory class for youngsters that is a combo/movement class. So it is not specifically jazz, nor ballet, but a bit of both.

Many of my friends kids are in a similar class at various studios, so my advice would be to find a studio that has a kids class.

If that is not an option, I would try ballet one year, and jazz the next. Also, if it doesn't conflict with gymnastics, let her continue with that, it's so much fun! :)

Gymnastics can be hard on a little child's body depending on what they are doing, it is usually better for kids who are at least 7 or 8. Jazz or Tap are good for smaller children. At 4, I was in tap and jazz..Ballet is hard for smaller children because they make them move slowly and methodically rather than rhythmically which as we all know it can be hard for small children to stay still for long periods of time. And no it wont "teach" them to stay still or slow down.

When my daughter and niece were 4 years of age, we put them in a dance school which also had gymnastics. They got a chance to develop in all the areas of their physical bodies. If you can find a school that has all - use them. She will be more well-rounded and you can observe which ones she favors most. In fact, my niece went on to Karate' and at the age of 12 was a certified black belt. It's good of you to notice that your daughter, even at this young age has skills. It's great to direct them because she will not be "gangly" and will have control of her body and parts. Good for you mom!

you need to let her decide. Maybe before committing to a class go sit in on a ballet and a Jazz dance class and ask her which she prefers. She'll thank you for it.
