I live in New York, going on a cruise to the Carribean leaving out of Port Canaveral, Florida. People have asked for me to bring back some liquor. I know that liquor bought on an island or on ship will be held by the cruise ship until we return to Florida. However, my concern is how to get it back to New York via plane.

1) What is the best way to protect the bottles in my check-in luggage?

2) I have a wheeled duffel-bag type of bag. Would this be sufficient to protect the bottles (I do not think so as it is soft material throughout), or should I buy a "traditional" suitcase that has a definite shape?

Bottles -- and liquids in general (whether it is medication, liquor, or water) are allowed on flights, the restriction is that you cannot bring more than 3 oz of liquid as a part of carry-on luggage. Checking it in is okay, and I have no problem with it being scanned.

I wanted to find out from other "Answerers" who faced this dilemma how did they pack and protect the bottles/liquids that they flew back with?

I'm facing the same dilema. As I see it, the biggest problem is the new weight restriction of 50 pounds per checked bag. Bottles of liquor are very heavy. Not to mention the possiblity of breakage.

dude you're better off just mailing the bottle by package mark it extremely fragile. it won't work by doing that by hiding it in your luggage! Airlines would scan your luggage. Remember that they won't allow liquids on the airplanes?! Sheesh you're doing a good job on trying to get arrested if you didn't pay any attention to the news!

Just mail the bottle via fed-express that'd be quicker.
