Does anyone know what kind of amp I should buy for a single 8" sub for my car? I would rather get a lot of sound from a small single sub rather than my 2 crappy unidentical 12" subs in homemade boxes to save space. I want to spend about $100-200 (if possible). Do mono amps work best? I don't even know the difference between monos and 2/4 channels, but I want to get every watt out the sub to get my moneys worth. The 8" isn't the greatest- I bought it at Checkers Auto parts for $15 but the magnet looks somewhat big for the money- about 6-7" Let me know if this a bad idea to even use this sub, but I don't want to buy a whole system. I'm kind of working with the scraps I have, but I can buy better if need be. Any suggestions? thanks!!

if your trying to save space and not spend a lot of money go with a powered sub setup. www.sonicelectronix.com check them out and you can find really good prices. if you can do a price of $150 id go for this http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_120_Audiobahn+ATB10AT.html its a 10" which is better than an 8" and audiobahn subs always sound good.

I agree with Brandon. By the time you spend $250 on a 100wrms amp, you'd be best buying a powered sub. MTX has Thunderforms which are vehicle-specific for saving the most space.
It is possible to make an 8" slam louder than a 15".
Box design has most to do with it. You can take a crappy sub and design the right box FOR THE SUB and it'll be twice as loud as an expensive sub in a crappy box. That's why sub manufacturers have box dimensions on their websites.

To be honest an 8" sub alone will be gutless

Your better off going out n getting a 10" sub or 2 10" subs in a box, they only cost around $100 (here in australia)

Yes you will need to run the sub on an amplifier. Just run the sub on the amp and the speakers on the deck. you would only need a 200watt amp with a sub that size.

dude you at least need a 10 inch sub, and buy a monochannel amp for it, to get the most out of both take the rms wattage off of your sub and get an amp that has the same or more of a rms rating. u can use the 8", but u will be extremely dissappointed, especially after you spend at least 150 for a decent amp
