Coming from personal experience, listen to everyone and don't touch the BIOS. I was lucky enough to have the experience to actual fix my own BIOS after a bad update. If anything goes wrong, your mighty $800 computer turns into a paper weight.

If you're talking about the avoiding the diagnostics when the computer boots, just enable quick boot.

NO... When you reboot your pc press the esc delete or F1 key when the lights first flash when the pc is booting, to access the bios. Updating the bios consists of a boot disk 3.5 floppy. and rebooting the pc with the disk in. (be sure to read the exact instructions for the upgrade you are preforming).. Oh and never turn off the computer when updating the bios, you could leave your bios damaged to the point of needing a new motherboard...

Most changes to BIOS settings can be undone by selecting the BIOS option "reset to default" or something along that line. Search "BIOS features or "settings" and one can find any number of useful resources to learn from on line or print.

It is my strong belief that after one is so used to using a computer that it becomes an integral part of their lives they really should learn to use BIOS settings. Some trouble shooting ability is essential I believe and in our age of computer usage it is remarkable so many wont take the time to learn a bit about how their computers work....enough with the fear tactics, knowledge is always for the better when it comes to PC use.

BTW, BIOS is Basic input/output system, it is set up to be clear, concise and easy to navigate, operate and restore by even the casual user of said system!

My motherboard has an independent program attached to it that runs in wondows. I can access all the bios setting with it. However - most boards dont have this and you do have to access it through the start-up sequence. Having said that - if you have to ask this question I seriously doubt your knowledge base regarding bios settings. Fiddling with them from a position of ignorance WILL render your baby unusable if you do it for long enough. Overclocking particularly will fry your board without appropriate cooling systems in place.

Have a really good reason for upgrading bios. You only get one chance to flash it !! Bios is not part of windows so you can't access it through windows - you only can access it during boot.
