The bible is a book and god is a pigment of our imagination.

I know, I know, lighten up people!

I believe that our normal concept of the world is shallow, and what we take to be reality is just a very small portion of what is. I think that the whole of reality can be glimpsed occasionally, and has been known by a few people. Whatever it is, it can't be understood in the normal way that we usually understand the world. When mystics talk about God, or the Tao, or enlightenment, I think what they're talking about is just reality as it actually is.

I think there are parts of The Bible that also talk about this reality, as I think that parts of The Koran, The Vedas, The Dhammapada, the Tao Te Ching, and other sacred texts also talk about it.

So, I equate "God" with "Truth," and I think The Bible contains some "Truth." But I don't believe in a personalized god, or a supernatural god, and I don't believe that The Bible, or any book, is supernaturally or divinely inspired.

I believe that the Bible is a book, God exists, and God didn't write the Bible.

The Bible is a book. Tough to argue with that. But the Bible is not MERELY a book.

The Bible is also the single greatest stumbling block on the road of the advancement of humanity beyond primitive superstition and into a realm of a responsible atheistic utopia.

Secondly, God is imaginary.

The Bible is the Word of God. He does exist and He will eventually judge you for your unbelief. Why not pick up this 'book' that you know nothing about and would rather criticize than actually read and have a solid intellectual argument. Your stupidity astounds me.

I believe the Bible is a collection of books, and God does exist. He inspired the writers.

studentofword84 is a nice guy. Schneb seems smart but I can't find the prophecy that came true that is the proof, all I see is a buncha sci-fi stuff about time space equilibriums and stuff (I read the whole thing a few times just to make sure).

I like this dude under me though, we could hang and drink some beers... maybe burn some bibles if we can steal em from some motel (don't worry, I'm straight).

I believe that the bible is a collection of human wisdom and morality. Even though I am an atheist, swearing on the bible would mean something to me because I believe in trying to do right and live a good life, and I value the wisdom of the people who have tried to record the history of our moral journey.

You're assuming that believing in one means believing in the other, and vice versa.

The Bible and the God described in it are fictional. God, however, is real.

As an agnostic, I must add the disclaimer that I do not "know" the above, but that it is simply my personal belief.

I believe anything could happen.

Both of my feet are on the ground. I understand science, evolution, logic. But if tomorrow someone told me that everything I knew was false, and here's the truth...I wouldn't believe it blindly, I wouldn't join a cult, but...I would look at it with an open mind. Who's to say the general opinion is the right one? Who knows anything, after all?
