Aloha from Down Unda!
We've all had the conflicting instructions headache. I'd suggest you may have simply failed to be patient enough for it to restart. It takes several minutes to digest the data & your settings may need to be altered. With systems administrator settings, the entire computer accepts or rejects certain processes. Also, there may have been some fault with the actual disc drive which may have prevented completion. It's extremely challenging to get even a new computer up & running & any effort expended on any used computer is certainly going to reveal why it's better to scrap than snap. I suspect that any counterfeit copies of Windows XP (Home) are detected in mass by service providers too. It's all to do with 'genuine' discs, settings (security & privacy), hardware servicability, patience & tenacity!
Best wishes ~

Sometimes people need to use a floppy to install drivers for their hard drive to be recognised, if you did not use a floppy forget about the message, do not remove the installation cd, when it restarts make sure that it boots from your hard drive.
The set is,
Hit a key to boot from cd. (it copies installation files to pc)
Reboot, and start installation using files copied.
keep the cd in (it requires a few files from it)
and follow the onscreen instructions and you are done.

I think I know this one. You have to change the boot order in the BIOS SETUP. When your machine boots it tells you how to get into setup . Reboot your computer and do what it says.
You will now be in the BIOS SETUP. Go to BOOT by pressing the right arrow key. Change the boot order so that the CD/DVD drive is the first device. Save your changes. Reboot.

did you check to make sure you do not have a floppy in drive A:\
?
possible your CD is corrupted.
it "should" say, remove and CDROMS from the drive, and reboot.
that when you do of course.
it will ask for an installation CD-KEY, does it tell you to rebot before, or after you enter this in ?

You may located the harddrive on slave. windows XP installer wont start if the hardisk is on slave. I experience this before and simply put your HD to master (it doesnt matter primary or secondary) solve anything. After installation complete you can change the HD like before

client provider isn't selection that all of us know, it efficiently a pirated license you're making to that old ninety 8 pc. It in basic terms appeared like a malburn disc to me. opposite to what "professionals" say I unquestionably have experienced optical drives and discs loss of life slowly on me, they don't in basic terms drop ineffective all of the sudden.

This seems like you have a floppy in your floppy drive. If not then your floppy is faulty, remove the whole assembly of floppy and then try it out.
