2GB can hold hundreds of thousands of pictures depending on the format they use.

That depends on the resolution of the camera, the format of the photo and the number of colors in each image.

Your camera's user manual should have a chart that shows approximate figures for various media cards. If the chart says for example that a 512MB card will hold approximately 450 pictures then multiply that figure by 4 to find the approximate capacity of a 2GB card.

512MB = ½ GB

On my cruise vacation, I had my 5.2MP camera dumbed down a bit from the highest resolution because I don't need all that detail in my pictures (and the pictures still look great) and I was able to get 650 photos and a few short video clips on one 512MB card. I barely touched my second 512MB card.
