I've always wondered about the people in modern times that say God spoke to them and how others perceive them. With the exception of people such as David Koresh or Jim Jones that did crazy things in the so called name of God, who are we as ordinary people to say that God isn't really speaking to someone? When somebody says "God spoke to me He told me to do this or that" most people look at the person like "Oh really?...He did?...whatever!" and they are labelled as a schizo or liar.
If people can believe in Moses and Noah and the number of other biblical figures that the Bible says God spoke to, then why can we not believe a person in the present who claims to have conversations with God?
Please don't tell me "Because Moses and Noah are in the Bible!" Yes, I know that I am fully aware of most of the stories I went to Catholic school from second grade through twelfth grade I am just asking an honest question.

Also, I am not religious but I do believe in God even though I have my doubts abouth things in the Bible sometimes.
Another thing, if you feel that you can not answer this question intelligently, then keep it moving. In other words, skip this question please.

sharen d I don't think you understood what I typed. When I said anyone in present times would be called a schizo if they said God spoke to them, I was expressing how most people would react to a person like that, NOT making fun of people with schizophrenia. Also I am not comparing David Koresh and Jim Jones to Moses, I was using them as examples as they were the first modern people that popped into my mind that claimed God spoke to them.

God speaks to me almost on a daily basis. But many do not understand that he only tells me things he wants me to know and understand. He sometimes tells me things about people even here on Yahoo, but NEVER audibly. God speaks right down in our heart, and as His word says, his children hear and know his voice.

How can one believe in God and not the characters of the Bible? To compare anyone with these horrid murderers that says God speaks to them is wrong.God speaks to the heart with a still small voice. It isn't an audible voice like a schizo.I do resent the comment on the schizo.A member of my family has got a mental disorder and its not been easy for the family.

Jim Jones is another story, but in all reality, he was a crazed homicidal maniac. Literally, Charles Manson's idol. Jim Jones had a strange ability of mental distortion projection, and only a few people are known to be able to do that.

I have thought the same, to the point that if God ever speaks to me the way He did in the Bible, I think I would consider checking myself in somewhere. I wonder every day about the "crazy" dude on the corner downtown with the sign, "Jesus is Coming." Is he really crazy? Most of us think so...

When one is born of God, born of His Spirit, spiritual eyes are opened. They can see the Kingdom of God in the spirit.
So can pray to Father God 24/7 because Jesus washed our sins away in His redeeming blood.
Praying to God the Father, Son & Holy Spirit is also, listening to God for the answer. The Holy Spirit confirms in our spirits. The Son has a voice and speaks in a vision. So does the Father. Because God is in His Throne up high, and the resurrected Jesus is at the right hand of God. But the connection is the Holy Spirit. Where we can pray, worship, etc. in spirit & truth.

When I feel the need for spiritual assistance, I find the answers within myself.
That is what I consider to be God's words to me.
If I begin to hear an actual "voice", I will make an appointment to see a psychiatrist.
