"Eurostar City" "Intercity" "Eurostar Italia"
What do these mean?
If I get an interrail zone G ticket it says some intercity trains require a subsidy, do all thes qualify as "intercity"?

Does anyone know how much the supplement might be?

"Locale", "Regionale" and "Interregionale" stops in all stations, including smaller ones.
"Intercity" and "Eurocity" (this one is international) stops only in major cities
"Eurostar" is a faster train, stops in big cities and it costs more.
"Cisalpino" is the same as "Eurocity" but Italian/Swiss; is the best choice if you travel from Milan to Florence or Venice.
For "Eurostar" booking is mandatory.

As far as I can see on Interrail site... actually is not clear if "upgrade" is needed for Eurostar only or Intercity/Eurocity also... :

Sure that u can buy the tickets online...The website is this: www.ferroviedellostato.it There is the english version in this website. Its not so diffucult to buy online and u will print a sheet with ur ticket..Then u will show it when the train's controller will ask u. U can also but the ticket at the station, but its better if u do that before, cause here in italy 1 may its a national holiday, so a lot of people will use the trains, so its better if u dont risk.. Byeeeeeeeee

If you're traveling within Italy, it's almost ALWAYS cheaper to buy point-to-point tickets than a pass.
