Here are two quick shots I just took of our cat to test the sharpness of the D200. I cropped the image from the original size of 3872 x 2592. I did not restrain the cropping in any way, so what you can view on Flickr is the full detail of the original image. You can read the comments with each photo to see the particulars, but they were each shot using auto-focus to catch my moving target. I used the on-camera flash; 60 mm macro lens; f/22; ISO 100. I used "auto-level" only and I did color in the "red-eye" on one picture.

Please click on "All Sizes" and then click on the largest size shown for each image before you judge sharpness.

In case you missed some earlier posts, these photos are actually for the benefit of another user who was questioning the sharpness of a Nikon D80, which has the same sensor. I agree with the almost pointless nature of a "sharpness test," but didn't know what else to call this to get his attention.

Koko, what you see is what you get. The ONLY post-production I did was one click on "auto-level" to brighten it up a bit. There is no post-production sharpening and the camera "Optimize Image" is set to "Normal." D200 rocks. The lens is really sweet, also.

Brian: If kirr45 didn't buy a D80, he sure had me fooled! And shame on him if he didn't. I think he was for real. He's 20 and confused and this was a huge amount of money for him to spend. Although, I am disappointed not to hear any more from him.
I have not looked into groups on Flickr, so I don't even know what that's all about. I'll check it out, though, and see if it's for me. I'm mostly there to put some photos in support of answers I give here, but maybe it could be a new time-kill for me. Thanks.
