Aren't flight attendants just waitress/waiters in the sky?

Todd ... Well, it may seem that way, but think about it for a minute. Think of the people that have served you in your favorite restaurant. Now imagine those folks wearing a flight attendant's uniform and telling you about the safety features of the aircraft or telling you what to do if the plane makes an emergency landing.

That's almost like asking someone who's been a crop duster to apply to be an airline pilot. I think they'd need a little more training, first ... a LOT more training.

No they are highly trained on how to react when there is an emergency. The favorite line of flight attendants in US airlines is that we are not here to serve you but for safety. That's after you ask for water and the stewardess giving you a bad look.

I don't think so. What about all the studying they have to do to learn safety proceedures, first aid, and cpr. I would rather be sitting next to a flight attendant than a waitperson in an emergency any day.

They're kinda like the pilots... bus drivers 99.99% of the time, master-skilled technicians the 0.01% of the time that matters.
1 flight in 100 they're an EMT.
1 flight in 500 they're a bouncer.
1 flight in 100,000 they're an emergency coordinator.
1 flight in 10,000,000 they're a hijacker negotiator.

They are there for your safety - the drink & pilolw thing is an airline thing - IE getting more value out of a mandatory safety crew ..

absolutely not. they speak several langauges, know a lot about security and how to deal with difficult situations and people, very tough job and a good physical condition needed.

Well i guess they walk around the plane they give out food and drinks and they personally give you whatever you would like to be happy on a plane.
