I am in college. There's another student whom I really like, although she has a boyfriend. I don't know how serious it is, but I'd like to ask her out. He seems to have been out of town for a while, he may still be.

Maybe, if we just hang out as friends, and they break up, she'll go for me, and if they don't, I can still enjoy her company. But I have no idea how she feels about me. Is there a way to ask her out in a non-dating way? Like two students hanging out?

Or should I just ask her on a date? Maybe she'll go for that. I am really afraid of it getting awkward around her if I ask her out and she says "no." Should I just do nothing?

just ask her if she wants to hang out with you and a couple of friends at the movies sometime and tell her she can invite friends too. this way it wont make it awkward, and there is only a minimal chance she will say no. and make a point to be with her, remember its the little things that count. good luck!

I say if you want to ask her out for a date by showing its, really not. Well I recommend to go up to her and say something like, "hey when-ever you have time can u try to help me with my H.W" or somthing similar to that. That will mean its not a date and its like saying 2 friends helping each other.....I hope that will help you!:)
