You have asked a very good question. Clearly you have put some thought into this. I do not know if I can answer your question but I can offer you my experience which may or may not be of any benefit to you.
Let me start with your question about having solid evidence. If I had solid evidence that God exists or does not exist then belief would not be an issue. In other words, belief in something is not an option if you have solid evidence. Whatever you have evidence of is, whether you believe in it or not!
Think about that for a minute. What is solid evidence? And, for that matter, how much SOLID evidence do you really have about most of the things that you believe in? For example, do you have solid evidence that a place called Tasmania exists? You have heard about this place, you may have read about this place, you may even know people who say that they are from that place, You might even have seen this place on TV as well. But, do you really know that it exists? Or is it simply that you believe the people who say that there is such a place?
Do you see what I am getting at Vesentine? There are a lot of things that you believe in that you have no solid evidence for. What you do have is faith. But not faith in the, for example, existence in Tasmania; what you have faith in is the people who tell you that Tasmania exists.
So, think about all the things you know and then think about all the things you actually have solid evidence for. You may be surprised to see that 99.44% of all the things that you believe in are actually not based on solid evidence but on the faith you have in the people who told you about them.
Such is my faith in God. People who are trustworthy have told me about their experience of God. Since they are trustworthy people I have good reason to believe them when they say that they experienced God in this way or that and thus they believe in God. If they believe in God, so can I.
Now, having this belief I have found myself open to experiences similar to those of the people who have told me about their experience of God. You may have had the exact same experiences but not knowing that they were experiences of God you could not be open to that possibility of interpretation.
This answer is getting long, but I want to briefly respond to your first statement “God cannot change your life unless you ask him into your life and live in his name.” Do you really think God cares whether you live in his name or not? Do you really think that if God is all merciful and just that He will wait until you ask him into your life before he does anything to help you along the way?
I can assure you, at least from my experience, God has done quite a lot for me in my life before I ever thought about accepting him and living in his name. I can look back on many experiences in my youth and I can see clearly, now, the unmistakable hand of God in many times and occasions.
I am forever thankful to him for not waiting on me!
I would like to say more since there is a lot more to say. But, let me suggest that you read Psalm 139 and then take a look at Romans chapter 8 verses 37-39.

You athiests seem to be obsessed with born-agains; they are a very small percentage of Christians; most are Lutheran,Episcopalian,Presbyterian,Catholic, etc. To answer your question, the human brain is far more sophisticated than any computer you will ever meet. It is clearly the product of intelligent design. We do not look at a house on a beach and go, "oh,look what a marvelous product of chance circumstance and the coming together of all the elements in just such a way." If something is created, one would expect there was or is a creator. If you think you can come up with "solid evidence" to the contrary, why don't you start a chain of shopping mall stores called Build-A-Brain? For ten bucks anybody could make one. Get all those Bertrand Russell Society types to come to your opening. I've met a few. Boy,are they brainy. A lot of them mention their supposed I.Q. within seconds of being introduced. Ugh.

I wonder that too. I'm not a firm believer but i would like to share my thoughts on this subject. I was born a catholic but later came to realize that there really is no supporting evidence that proves the existence of god so why waste my time going to church. People need to believe in the existence of a higher power in order to feel less afraid of death, well thats what I think. We have disproved many theories due to technology, and I believe that with each passing year, the tradition of religion is diminishing because of advances in science and technology. Religion to me is something people believe in to give them piece of mind. I'm a skeptic, I need to see in order to believe. We can't say whether or not there is a god, or some kind of higher existence because we basically don't know, we have nothing to prove or disprove that. We can only come up with theories based on the information at hand.

Hey, what up.
Not sure if you had a chance to read the book I had posted.
But God and the proof of Him are in the Hearts of those who are true Christians.
We have endured through many trials and hardships.
But God has never turned His back on us.
We know without a doubt He exists.
We have Faith, and the comfort and joy that comes from the Lord God almighty, and His Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, together as One, they will dwell in our hearts and souls for all eternity.
Until this world passes away, there will be a spiritual battle.
And many who are quick to condemn the Truth.
I hope you find Him.
Or rather I hope He finds you. I hope He will change your heart.
Stop sinning, ask Him to come into your heart.
Turn from all that which is wrong.
You will know too, He is real.
And He Loves you.
May God Bless You.

Raven is right when she says that there have been many gods and goddesses...in fact, mankind as far back as we can know has always had some form of worship. There never has been, so far as I know, a tribe of atheists.
That's a given.
It has never seemed logical to me to suppose that the universe could exist without a creator. The idea that a couple of bits of matter came from nothing, collided nowhere, and caused a "big bang" which resulted in the universe does not seem logical to me, moreso when I have to factor in that this universe is supposed to be all that exists, and yet, it is expanding. Uh...expanding, into what? Duh, I guess into the same nothing or nowhere the original atoms came from....
Could it be that mankind has always been reaching out to the God he instinctively knows is there...maybe because that instinct is "built in"?? Well...but then I'm back with all those gods and goddesses....
Those gods and goddesses represent man reaching out to God.
Jesus is God reaching down to man.
Yeah, I know...it's kinda long, but you asked, and I'm doing my best to give you my rationale.
God bless you.

I have a conviction of God's existence that is so strong and unwavering that it actually hurts me when I hear others speak against God. I am a born-again believer and the best way I can tell you of God's realness is to say it's like a kite. No matter how high or far away the wind blows a kite, if you hold onto the string you will know the kite's still there (even though you can't see it) by the ever so gentle tug you'll feel in your hand. God's tug is felt in my heart.

One may always start with Paschal's wager: If you don't believe in God, and you are right, you have gambled and won. If you don't believe in God, and He does exist, you have gambled and lost. If you believe in God and He does not exist, you still have lost nothing. The safest bet, therefore, is to believe.
I, however, have felt His personal presence in my life. I believe because He is someone that I have talked with, just as you would talk with any of your friends.
He cannot normally be discovered with the five senses, but so many things in this world cannot. We are not merely, however, the sum of our physical senses. We are intellect and emotion as well as physical. The mind opens a world of great possibilities. I find God among these possibilities. He is the actual creator of these possibilities, and is more than can be encompassed by our mere minds.
We try to define and understand Him, but are not truly capable of doing so. Perhaps you can find some comfort in the words of Mark Twain who said that "God created man in His own image; and man, being a gentleman, returned the favor."

I beleive in God because because i have some sort of feeling in me to beleive! Not because i was taugt to beleive. The real question is why dont you beleive in him? he is the only way and the only true God!!!! I will never choose to deny him and i will always stand firm in what i beleive! I try to get others to beleive along with me..... and that is my job that God has chosen for me! So dont ever try to get me to stop praising him because you cant persuaid me from my beleif!!!!!!!

I was salted with fire. I have seen Holy angels on two separate occasions, I have received a verbal message from another on one occasion. I have seen Demons fallen Angels souls of men and the dammed. I've encountered unholy spiritual entity's who have attacked me, oppressed me and tried to use powers against me in many ways. I've experienced witchcraft used against me in various ways. The list goes on and on, threw my trials my faith has grown stronger and stronger.Faith is when you believe in something unseen knowing would be a better term.
