I'm really exhausted, needless to say, and my famliy seems to have bad luck lately.
My sister has been having headaches since March 16, roughly a week and a day ago. They are rather intense and always come back. Earlier in the week, she vomited throughout the night, but that spell cleared up.
Today, she was suffering from her headache and grew increasingly disoriented, especially after a fight with my father. She could not speak coherently or write. She began to throw up and had complain of pain and then numbness in her hands and sides just before the fight with my father.
Are we looking at meningitis? A simple bacterial infection? If you have an informed opinion, please give me some idea. The hospitals are damned slow, and I want to research the ramifications myself.

It could be any number of things---since you say she had this after a fight, it could be anxiety triggered by the "fight or flight" response of the body. She could be having migraines. If she starts to have vision problems, like seeing spinning circles of light called "color auras" that could be what is wrong. Migraines also cause nausea and vomiting. Then, on the scary side, she could be suffering from a chemical imbalance, strokes or a brain tumor. If she is young, it is probably not these scary things. It is most likely stress. However, be sure she sees a doctor. It could be serious!

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck.
Headaches can be caused by minor problems
like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more serious reasons
like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can
have harmful side effects, so it is better to
modify your lifestyle. More information available at

If she has meningitis, she would have nuccal rigidity. Can she put her chin on her chest? That is the test for nuccal rigidity.
The symptoms you describe are also indicative of migrane.
I am a nurse and I cannot diagnose. These are just ideas that come to my mind. I wish you and she the best! Have her checked out soon.

I recommend taking her to the hospital or urgent care. Not to scare you but this sounds serious. It could be meningitis and if it is it wont clear up on its own she needs medical treatment, it could also be a tumor or swelling or even fluid build up in the brain. She needs medical attention please take her to the doctor, this could lead to a hemorrage or stroke. Good luck to her

gurl i would really advice you to go get your sister to a doctor because the best way to know her diagnosis is to perform lab procedures. unless not proven by the lab results these will remain impressions. and if you ask me i think it's a serious problem that may lead to stroke because you were saying the sometimes experience numbness in her hand..

It could be a neurological problem like you suggested.... MAYBE. Like MS or something =D
It might also be a psychological problem from stress.... like an anxiety disorder or a psychosomatic disorder(like what you said with her hands' numbness)
Or maybe she has a virus or the flu or something and is really affected by it.... =S

I have no idea what it is or how severe it is. The best thing is to go straight to the emergency room and let them do the testing to rule out more serious things and go from there.
