It obviously depends on the level of rudeness.
You can let him know that his actions/words were inappropriate and in future you would appreciate it if he would respect that you are in a work environment and you expect to be treated accordingly. Make sure you do this privately, showing the same respect you expect to be treated with.
People tend to respect others that stand up for themselves.
Keep in mind, the rudeness of some bosses can sometimes be attributed to the pressure/stress that he is under. That is no excuse for being rude to employees but may help employees better understand the bosses actions and possibly be more tolerant.

There are people who are downright rude and abusive and those who are just a bit abrupt or really don't know how they come off to others. You will have to decide which one your boss comes under. It depends upon what was said as well. If it was personal and not job related, he/she has absolutely no reason to bring it up. If it is job related, I would sit down with your boss and clarify what it is they need from you . You could also check with coworkers and see if they have had the same experience with this person. If so, you know it is how this person comes across and maybe will not take it so personally. There is no reason, however, to take insults from anyone.

It depends on the situation, the type of job, and the boss in question.
He may simply think he is being straightforeward in giving orders. Some people think that is rudeness, but it really isn't.
If, however, he is actually verbally abusive, you can say something to him about it in a formal meeting. Be prepared to document vile behaviour, and be prepared to go to HIS supervisor, if the behaviour doesn't change.

Boss or no boss he or she is still a person just like you and shouldn't be allowed to be rude to you.You go to work to do a job and get paid for it and that's not an excuse for your boss to take advantage of you trying to earn a living by being rude to you.Tell your boss you don't appreciate how you are being treated and you want it to stop.If he or she wants to debate about it then bring it to his or her bosses attention that you are being harassed by your boss and they refuse to stop doing it and you want it to stop.If it continues then notify the labor board or contact an attorney and try to find out what your rights are in your state and what you can do about it.If it gets out of hand then sue their butts for harassment.Maybe if it puts a dent in their pocket book next time they'll think twice before harassing somebody else.Don't let it go because if you do it'll only get worse.

you probably just work for a rude a*shole so move on if it becomes unbearable. taking the legal route is expensive and you cannot guarantee it will do you any good. This is just another of what should be a brief obstacle in life. Steer clear of it and don't look back.

You can tell them that just because they sign your paycheck does not give the right to be rude. If you get fired, sue the b'stard! You won't have to work for a few years.

It depends if you want to keep the job and if you have guts to defend yourself. Why are you being rude to me? is a response that shouldn't get you in trouble.

As long as you work for a person who is insulting you then you are pretty much not able to get to the root of the problem. Get another job.

Smile, and keep your mouth shut. At least, until you've got a new job waiting for you.

Just learn to ignore them. If you take what they do or say to heart, it will only drive you insane..Lol. Sometimes you have to accept that it is their personality.
