The rate of calories burned during a period of time depends on your heart rate and your physical ability. The higher your heart rate, the more calories you burn. Also, the better shape you are in the fewer calories you burn because you heart isnt working as hard or beating as fast to keep up with your exersion level. Your weight has something to do with it and also your age does as well. Plus you must factor in how hard you pedalled during your ride. You will burn more if you pedalled hard versus just strolling along to cover the distance.

So it also depends on your age and your effort level (heart rate) as to how many calories you burned. Anyone can say you burned this many, but you may have burned way more or way less than that number.

The only true way to know is to wear a heart rate monitor that is set up for you with all your factors programmed correctly into. It will tell you almost exactly how many calories you have burned during your exercise period, no matter what you have done.

To give you a rough guide I have assumed a 22lb bike flat terrain and no wind .

By my calculations you would have outputted about 43 Calories (big c or kilo calories). Most people's bodies are around 24% efficient so this would give a total burn of around 180 Calories.(should find this figure quite accurate)

Mathematically energy = force x distance

My calculations take into account rolling and wind resistance for a typical bicycle
