First, I agree that with your sentiments on drinking, because of the dangerous affects of alcohol. It is addictive and responsible for appoximately 100,000 deaths American lives annually. The supposed benefits of drinking in moderation must be compared with the fact that even moderate drinking contributes and has been linked to cerebral atrophy, stroke, fetal alcohol syndrome, and heavier drinking.
However, as a trained smoking cessation instructor, I must point out that smoking is has no benefits whatsoever healthwise. It is more addictive even than cocaine and heroin, yet it is legal. There are an estimated 468,000 deaths per year attributed to smoking, which equals more deaths than are caused annually by alcohol, toxic agents, firearms, and illicit drugs combined.
All in all, while it seems "safer," tobacco is no better than alcohol, and would be considered worse by most medical professionals.

P.S. I would highly recommend that you, as a smoker, give up the habit, since your body can undo much of the damage caused. The longer a person smokes, the worse the permanent damage will be. Quit while you can! If you'd like more info, email me.

No, I don't. My parents both almost always drunk and consequently did not care if I drank or not, and so I often did as a young teenager. (I honestly can't remember a time when my father hadn't been drinking). Drinking at a young age was also more socially acceptable in that society than it is where we live now. I don't think I gained anything from the free reign. I prefer not to drink at all now (will do occasionally at social events, etc. but don't keep any alcohol at home). The most important thing, in my opinion, is modelling healthy drinking habits, and not creating a "badass stigma" about drinking. It is true that countries with higher legal ages, have more problems with binge drinking and teens, which surely is not a coincidence. I think that I do model healthy drinking habits but I don't let them drink.

I'd say drinking is worse. They are both incredibly addicting and both can kill you. Smoking doesn't change you as much emotionally and mentally as drinking. You can't get drunk from smoking. You can get high, but I'm assuming you're talking about legal smoking.

All your drinking scenerios imply that it was done irresponsibly. You can drink responsibly and in moderation and you can be extremely healthy. You can't smoke in moderation, first of all it's too addicting and people who smoke usually smoke every day, plus the long term effects are way more detrimental on the body. Our livers are actually way more resilient than our lungs.

I'd say smoking does more damage to yourself and those close to you (from second hand smoke). But definitely alcohol is much more damaging in many other consequences like violence, car accidents, hit and runs, memory loss, unprotected sex, and the list goes on...

do you mean smoking pot or smoking cigs? because if you're talking about pot then drinking's definitely worse. no one has ever overdosed on marijuana. plus you can't physically get addicted to marijuana. everybody knows about alcoholism though.
