It depends on the disorder. Since you put this under mental health.....do you mean a psychologist (a Ph.D.) or a psychiatrist (a M.D.)???

Most types of doctors treat some type of disorder. If you mean mental disorders you probably mean a psychiatrist. This is a medical doctor that can diagnose, treat and prescribe medication for all types of mental disorders. A psychologist also treats or mental disorders but more through counseling or therapy.

Mental disorders? If so, and you want to be able to prescribe meds, then you want to be a psychiatrist. If you want to counsel them and try to establish new ways of thinking(while treating conditions) then you want to be a psychologist.

I want to be a psychologist myself :)

I have a BA in psychology now, and am looking for graduate schools to apply to.

under mental health that would be a psychiatrist as far as a doctor goes because he can write prescriptions.unfortunately, that's about all they really do besides giving a name to ones particular disorder.a psychologist has a degree but not a doctorate so they can only interact and counsel patients but to me that's better because they get to really help the patients with their problems.
