Because religions need to protect their "turf", as it were.
You see, a religion that didn't have active systems for attracting and retaining adherents would die out over time, as a simple matter of evolution.
That's why they're so insistent on adherents having lots of children, and raising those children "in the faith".
It's also why they typically insist to have "the only way to salvation", and why they insist that being a non-adherent will lead to a terrible fate after death.
A religion that only attracted intelligent or well-behaved people would also die out simply because there are relatively few of those, so religions need to appeal to people who simply aren't very bright and/or don't have the discipline to behave themselves. That's why they've got all of these systems for excusing their adherents' bad behavior: it often seems that excusing bad behavior is a primary function of religion.
Since the ultimate reward for being an adherent is intangible (it only comes after death, supposedly), the appeal has to be largely on the basis of things that one can have more immediately, such as a sense of belonging and superiority generated by denigration of non-adherents.
In short, the "hate" is a major part of how religions protect themselves from defections.

maybe you are focusing on the bad things? Which wouldn't be surprising as the media feeds off of that. War, Terror, Disaster, these things keep people from changing the channel. I travel a lot for work and there are more good things than bad things out there.

Because in Luke 14:26, Jesus says that his disciples must hate their families (mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, children) and themselves.
Sadly, Christians seem to follow that rule more closely than they do other rules.

Because it's easier. It takes effort and time to learn about other people, and we have more important things to do, like getting to that sale at Wal-Mart.
As someone once said, there is always just enough religion to hate, but never enough to love.

because people have lack of faith, hope and love for themselves, which makes it hard to love one another and they don't know or have a relationship with God...

if god is real and if he is everything then god is war as well as peace. he is hate as well as love. he is error as well as perfection. if you have peace your going to have hate along side of it.
