i think it hurts so much because you were depending so much on that person saying yes and when they didn't, it crushes your heart. but sometimes, it hurts more in the long run if they say yes to you. don't ask me how i know. it hurts too much to tell you. i hope that answers your question.

It has to do with one's self image. If a person just likes another but is rejected, that person's self image has taken a blown. In the back of anyone's mind, there is a hope that somehow the other person likes them back and their current relationship would evolve into something more. The rejection makes one question if anyone will be interested or love them in the future.
One time I liked this person but I wanted to get to know him first. For some strange reason, he flat out told me that he wasn't interested. It left me speechless and gawking at him but after that, I didn't cry but I was in pain for awhile...It made me kept thinking if I was lovable but the most important thing is to move on and forgive them, not because they need it but it would set you free. To get over it, you might want to indulge for a day, like in ice cream. Or. write about it. Fact is the other person doesn't care about your feelings and has already moved on. Rejection is hard to shake off and its different for every person.

Rejection hurts because it seems as though the one who is rejecting you is saying you aren't good enough for him/her. Or that you aren't the one they want to be with. Doesn't know matter if you know the person well or not rejection to me is a way of saying you aren't someone I want to be with.

Because they just ripped your hope to shreds. That feels terrible. It also shows that you have no chance with them. Me, if I'm rejected, I just walk on like it doesn't matter.

Its very painful because you put hope in someone to like you back but those hopes are crushed and you feel like you've wasted your efforts. You feel like you're just not good enough and maybe its just you. But its not true. Don't worry. Its not just you. Its them.

because you feel like even though you liked them a little, they didn't feel the same way and you probably want the person you like to like you back, i know i do, because you want everyone to like you.

Because someone doesn't care the same way back, and it hurts you, because you may like them, and they don't feel it back.
