How do you know if he likes you?

There's this boy and last school yr, everyone would tell me he liked me, but i hardly even knew him. So this year, me and him have become friends, but I nevermentioned the fact that people told me he liked me last yr. So this year he's dated a few people, but none have really worked out. Well when he was last dating my best friend, I thought he liked me even though he was dating her. He always would be staring at me, and he flirts a lot but idk if hes just being friendly? so i really dont know if he likes me. So how do i know if he likes me or not?

First of all why do you want to know if he likes you, would you be interested in him? If you are interested flirt right back with him and he should get the hint to ask you out. If you just want to be friends ... well i think you can figure out what to do. Almost everyone is afraid of rejection and he might just be looking for a sign for you. If you have been flirting with him chances are he just wants to be friends or there is a chance he is especially attracted to you and is still afraid to ask you out but its hard for me to read him since i dont really know who he is or how his other relationships have gone
