Were trying to figure out what method to use after the baby. I dont want anything that messes with my hormones so pills, patch, shot, and IUD are out of the question. Is spermicide, a good method ?

I had a baby 10 months ago and also could not use the pill do to breastfeeding. I started menstruating again around four months. We have been using a spermicide and so far so good.

No i don't think so, and this why. Firstly if you use it on a condom, there are side effects that you should consider, such as genital irritation, inflammation and general discomfort. However if your planning to use it without a condom while it may reduce the risk of pregnancy it does not prevent transmitting some diseases and infections like, hiv, syphilis, chlamydia, genital herpes or gonorrhea. Personally I think you should reconsider using the pill.

BBT(basal body temperature) combined with barrier methods is your best bet, if you don't want anything hormonal.
Since your cycle may be different after childbirth, I suggest you chart your cycles for 3 months or longer to pinpoint ovulation. Then you know what days you can have intercourse with relatively low chance of pregnancy. Use of creative sexual expression (non-intercourse) for 3 days before and after ovulation is recommended.

a few choices (remember to talk to your doctor about this also)
condoms (the male ones or female one)
rhythm
sponge
cervical cap
spermicide (like you mentioned)

I, myself, am on NuvaRing. LOVE IT!! But, it has hormones in it.

Spermacide is good but you have to apply like 30 mins in advance everytime you have sex !!! I mean honestly who has time to do that everytime ! After I deliver I'm going to try the NuvaRing...heard it ws great !!! Good luck !!!
