i had this problem a few months ago and people gave me these totally cliche and obvious luvvy duvvy answers and no one gave me any sure ways to get over someone, and to tell u the truth, im not sure there are any, but there are ways to help and quicken the process and i will tell u some of those.
dont watch any romantic movies or any romantic songs until you have gotten over him.......listen to some avril lavigne "happy ending" and scream it at the top of your lungs until its out of your system.....
dont spend much time inside, go for a walk, bike ride, etc. if u are inside, make sure to have lights on at all times because it is a proven fact that it makes you feel happier in the long run
always have chocolate on hand, esp. dark because dark chocolate triggers something in your brain that also makes you happier and is better for you and less fat than milk chocolate
for the first few weeks, set aside one night to yourself where you can just think and get over the grieving process, and then after that is out of your system, then find distractions, hobbies and friends (sry about that dont mean to be cliche)
i hope i helped and good luck in getting over him........its hard sometimes

Make a list of all the things that caused it not to work (he was disrespectful, he was pushy, he was selfish, he was immature, etc.) Haha I know it might sound mean, but reading it over helps the fact that it wasn't meant to be sink and and it helps you to realize what qualities you look for in a future boyfriend. Good luck through this hard time- I know how difficult it is!

Slowly go out with other people. Even if it's just for Coffee.Make yourself visable to guys you find attractive. there are many quality guys right now as you read my answer that are at home or out somewhere looking for a girl just like you. Never forget that. "Don't worry about the people in your past, there is a good reason why they didn't make it to your Future" Julian Martinez

You have to realize that there's someone better looking ,will treat you like a princess, and make you feel better just around the corner or in the next place you go.If you focus on the past you can't experience the present. You'll never leave the past till you live for the moment.......

Convince yourself that the break up is a good thing... it gives you a chance to find someone better who is actually worth your time. So be happy you got out now and not years later after wasting more of your time

Get rid of everything that reminds you of them, and do something fun. One of my friends took a road trip across the state, came back and said she met so many new people, that she totally forgot about her ex. (They were engaged.)

Be friends with him. It will be hard at first, but if you keep your grudge whenever you run into him you're going to feel hurt. Don't burn your bridges. You may need to cross them again someday. I hope this helps.

I like to bash on them to my family and friends and such. It makes me feel better, even if it is a little immature. =D
