I have zero experience in welding. But I can generalized here. Getting a licence on anything sets you above the rest. If all you want to do is solder some joints then anybody can do it. However, there are certain types of jobs that require a certain skill level. Having a licence doesn't guarantee that you are good at what you do but, it does filter people out. To pass any licence test you at least have to meet a certain standard and you have to put some time and effort to obtain such licence. So, an employer may need a certified person for a certain job that requires it. If you have that licence you will stand a better chance of getting that job. Also, you can demand more money because you are certified. That is you can guarantee a certain quality level.

In short is a way of proving that what you claim you are able to do is true.
