We have replaced most of the incandescent (traditional)
light bulbs in our house with energy saving compact flourescent light bulbs.
We are concerned with both global warming and energy usage. My question is, should we turn these bulbs out when we leave a room or leave them on? I am even unsure if we should leave them on at night rather than turn them on each morning? That is, which way provides the least impact on the environment and also uses the least energy.

Any kind of bulb, fluorescent or incandescent, should be turned off when nobody is in the room to save energy. It is a myth that it takes a surge of electricity to turn on a light.

They do use energy just like old fashioned bulbs, only less. If you want to minimize your energy bill turn them puppies off.

you have to turn them off....they use much less energy while starting....notice how it gets bhrighter from the time you have switched on!...save electricity....no matter it gives
more amount of light than incandesent bulbs...but switching off is the better way of making this world environmental friendly!!

I'll tell you what, you shouldn't even have them.
Apart from giving off a very drab and depressing light, YOU are contributing to phosphorus pollution.
Soon they'll be a massive problem if these bulbs aren't banned.

No, keep them on feels much better doesn't it! Especially when you're afraid of tripping over some pair of tennis shoes, or a set of wires hanging from one side to the other. Maybe there's someone in your closet. Maybe there's 10 of em. No matter what you do, keep the TV set on at all times. It's the only way for "them" to stay in contact... with you!

you should definitely turn them off when leaving a room. Since they turn on more 'gently' than incandescents, they won't zap any more power if they are turned off and on frequently.
