Most well read atheists know the man Jesus was here. We have non christian evidence to prove this including Josephus, Tacitus, Pliny the Younger. But who was this Jesus?
He was either a nut, a liar or he was the son of the living God who died for our sins.
Seeing that the eye witnesses (yes, they were here and this can be proven also) died for him, gave up everything for him, why?
I say the evidence shows he was who he claimed to be, The Christ who died for the sins of the world!

1. Jesus is a Hebrew name, which means "the Lord saves."

2. He is believed to be the "Messiah"(or Ha-Mashia) that had been foretold and written by the prophets in astounding accuracy from birth to death and resurrection on scrolls thousands of years before it came to pass. Jews do not believe Jesus as the Messiah and are still waiting for the Messiah to come. Three major books that Jews and Christians read are the books of the Law (Torah), the Prophets (Nevi'im), and the Writings (Kethuvim). The two groups disagree because Jews are waiting for a ruler to come and be enthroned as a ruler forever according to II Samuel 7:16: "Your house and your kingdom will endure forever." It was nearly unimaginable for anyone at that time to even think a Messiah would die in a death sentence shamefully stripped naked amongst the criminals. It's, however, written in Isiah: "he was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter... he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors."

3. Jesus Christ is NOT the first and the last name. Christ means the "Anointed One" - Aramaic word for Messiah. Jesus is the Christ, the Anointed One. Long ago, Israel had three offices that were anointed. They were the priests, prophets, and the kings. Therefore, Christ is the ultimate Anointed One who who's had all three functions: 1) Priest= way to God 2) Prophet= way from God 3) King= ruler with all authority both in heaven and earth.

John chapter 1 verse 1-3 -- In the beginning the Word already existed. He was with God, He was God. He was in the beginning with God. Nothing exists that He didn't make.

Jesus is the Word. Jesus was God manifested in the flesh. (John 1:14)

The really good thing here is in verse 12 --"But to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the the right to become the children of God." !!

Jesus was more than a good man, more than a prophet and teacher. He was God made flesh, the Son of God. Jesus came to show men and women everywhere how to be free from their. It is possible to live a life holy before God. Jesus came to die. He knew the end from the beginning. He came and was rejected by the very people He came to save.

He laid down on the cross of Calvary, shedding his blood, for your sin. He was the payment or atonement for your sin. God sent His Son to show you the only way to Him. When I say God I'm referring to Yahweh (Jehovah). Not Allah, or Buddha or some other person. I'm speaking of the God of the Holy Bible. The one most persecuted.

A social activist similar to Gandhi, who advocated love and peace for all people. He was probably the son of Joseph the carpenter, and when the local government where he lived thought he was stirring up too much rebellion, they had him executed by crucifixion. Some people think he resurrected. Other people think he escaped with Mary Magdalene and left descendants. I think he probably died of the crucifixion and his remains decomposed.

He had some good things to teach humanity, but unfortunately a charlatan named Saul/Paul started a cult in his name, which has since taken over much of the world and rules through guilt, shame, and punishment. The real Jesus, the social activist, is probably turning over in his grave at the things that have been done in his name.

The David Koresh of his day.

A Jewish Rabbi (a title that, to this day, requires one to be married, hmm..) whose unorthodox teachings so offended and threatened the "powers that be" (the priest hierarchy and Roman government) that they had him liquidated to prevent his teachings from going "viral".

They failed. The mythology of the "Messiah" was spread far and wide, mostly by those who never actually had met the man. Stories were told of his magic and his intimate rapport with the Hebrew sky god Yahweh. The stories spread rapidly through the mostly uneducated, gullible and oppressed underclasses of the Roman Empire and then later in dark ages Europe.

The tradition of his amazing mythology has, to this very day, been spread amongst the underclasses of the world. Spread by the governments and religious institutions of the western world to placate the masses and maintain them in their servile position in society.

Man born of the virgin Mary, and was the son of God. During his life he preformed miracles and taught people about our loving God. There were many eye witnesses who saw his many miracles and that's why Christianity spread and became very popular
