I have a 5 year old niece who is now living with me. When she came to me, she had head lice. I also have a 6 year old daughter. Both girls are in day care and elementary school. I have tried everything in the world to get rid of this lice but it keeps coming back. I've tried the over the counter lice shampoos, hair grease, olive oil, mayonaise, hairspray, prell shampoo...anything anyone has told me. I've combed until my arm is ready to fall off. I've bagged up all the stuffed animals and washed all the bedclothes including pillows in extemely hot water. I've vaccumed the furniture and carpet. It keeps coming back over and over again. I've just switched jobs and cannot possibly miss work time and I have no insurance as I work as a temp and lice medication from the doctor is 125 dollars for a bottle that will only do one head. Does anyone know anything else I can try? Please I am desperate!!

Both of their hair is already pretty short, but the problem with my niece's is it's very thick and wavy. I've left conditioner and hair grease on their heads over night but it's not doing the trick either and I can't just shave their hair off. Ya'll know how cruel kids in schools can be. And Gasoline on their hair is just not safe. Is there anything at all I can do?

I lived in a very warm climate and there was a family that had tons of lice, and because i was stupid and little i played too close and my family got head lice. Well, shampoos didn't work on us, somehow they never do. I had really long thick hair and the only thing that worked on me was washing my hair with VINEGAR, and later having my mom pick out the eggs and killing the lice with her fingers. finally after a couple of weeks i was lice free. The only solution i see is you picking them out by hand, not with the comb, but by hand.

Have they come in contact with any other kids recently or a lot? If they have ask their parents or guardian to get them checked for lice. Maybe try just using a blow dryer on their head? The lice hate warm conditions and will stay away. They can also spread eggs quick, so unless you get professional help of some kind or get the best treatment ever for eggs, they may keep spreading and coming back.

GO TO THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT, they can get you the shampoo free, a big jug, tell them double the number of people in your home, use it every 9 days , in between shampoo with dish liquid, and conditioner, use vinegar to get out nits, so you do not go crazy brushing out, keep using shampoo for about 2 months , you and hubby need to use also, sorry, it's a pain but everyone goes thru it just do the best you can, also make sure the girls blow dry hair every time it gets wet, lice hates heat

125.00!! Go to the pharmacy, and get an entire headlice kit for around five or six dollars! use one bottle on long hair, and a half of one on short hair. Do the entire families heads, then make sure that you disinfect the carpets, beds, sofas, and all of the furniture in the house. rewash all of the childrens clothing also. Read the instructions and do exactly what it says. it will abolutely get rid of headlice. Tell the school and all people that the child has had contact, so they can see where it originated from.

I had really bad lice when i was younger too. It kept coming back. It might be "ninja lice" (yes, its actually called ninja lice) My mom used to have me sit and comb my hair for HOURS. Strand by strand and again, the lice came back. We used EVERYTHING to get rid of it. We finally had to go to the doctors and get a special shampoo.

Good Luck

I know it sounds horrible but when my sisters step kids came to live with them with lice. They tried everything, and finally had to cut their hair really short. Then use the shampoo. It seemed to work.
Good luck

I have a friend with two girls who got it all the time.

She swears by Listerine. She also uses the generic kit and shampoo at Wal Mart every couple of weeks just to be sure.

Good luck!
