It depends on what you ate. Call your local poison control center. This website will direct you:

Are you vomiting? Do you have diarreah, stomach cramps, the sweats? If any of these are severe, you need to go to the emergency room. Some bacteria is deadly enough to kill you but if you get help in time, it can be remedied. If you think you only have a mild case and your symptoms aren't severe, just treat the symptoms for a few days and it will pass. But if you are vomiting a few times every hour, you need emergency help. To control mild stomach upsets, you can try immodium for diarreah and stomach cramps and emetrol (an over the counter liquid medicine for nausea). These should help alot until it gets flushed from your system. Good luck.

Depends. Seriously, how old are you? If you're young and healthy and your body can handle a few days of diarrhea and vomiting, then get some Powerade to drink and take some time off work/school to get over it. If you're elderly or in frail health, then go to the emergency room if you're puking/pooping your guts out. Most healthy adults can handle a round of salmonella or e.coli. It's the frail, the elderly, and children who can't. Even so, if your vomit looks like coffee grounds, then go to the ER. If your poop is black and tarry, then go the ER. If you're feeling very very weak, then go to the ER. Be sure to keep hydrated and if you're worried, it will never hurt to call your doctor.

**Don't take Immodium or anything to stop the diarrhea unless ok'ed by your doctor. These medications will ease comfort, but they also hold the bacteria inside your body. Gross as it sound, diarrhea is your body's way of cleansing itself of the food poisoining organsims.

Best of luck

Food poisoning usually will pass on its own. If you're not better in 24 to 48 hours, go to your doctor. There's usually nothing that can be done about food poisoning except to keep replenishing your fluids and just let it pass.
