There are many types of letters ... business, personal, sales, thank you, sympathy, congratulatory, "good news", "bad news", complaint, compliment, cover for a job application, etc. Each varies from the others and requires a specific layout and/or form. Without knowing what type of letter you are intending to write, I can only suggest that you "Google" search your letter format for some tips or purchase a letter-writing book from your local bookstore.

Use MS Word, it has templates for that sort of thing
