I have a friend that has relied on her daughter since she was 14. She watches her 12 and 8 year old siblings for abut 21/2 hours and starts dinner. I see nothing wrong with this and I feel that this is a normal thing for working families these days.

I see nothing wrong with that if the children are well trained and well behaved and that all safety hazards are removed and they are well versed on the safety measures to take (like contacting the nearest neighbour/police/ambulance besides the parents)...

Yeah, a 14 yr old is old enough to babysit or watch their own siblings and cook food. Two and a half hours isn't all that long really and hopefully the kids have phone numbers where they can reach adults and perhaps a neighbor's house they can run to if in need.

Yes that is perfectly fine. I have 2 younger brothers. Even thought we are all adults now. I watched them all the time growing up.

Yes it is normal, she is old enough and if she is complaining tell her her allowance will have to be cut for the cost of the sitter.
