I have a 95 Jeep Cherokee Sport. It has decided to randomly just shut off while I am driving. Everything will stay on except the engine.

Also, the temp gauge gets to about 260, it makes a squealing sound for a few seconds under the hood and then the temp goes down to just below 210.

Thanks

It has almost 132K miles on it.
And I do want to fix it, I love my Cherokee!

I had something similar on my 94 Grand Cherokee! It was two problems firstly the battery clamps were loose & mis-shaped also the ignition module wires were breaking contact when it got hot so I then replaced them & had no more problems with it (engine wise anyway).

Hope this helps

i have a 95 jeep cherokee sport also...its not red is it? automatic..was having the same problem...i did all the work myself to try and fix it...and then after everything the motor blew up! is it stalling out? first thing id do is look everything over for me i had a problem with my radator, pcv vavle was cracked, crank shift possition sensor was in-op, map sensor, and my o2 sensor i hope you dont have the same problems i had...but now it runs like a champ once you dump all the money in it...lift it up and put some big tires under it ;) if you want to get rid of it ill give you 600 ;) and if the motor does blow..then drop a bigger block in! how many miles do you have on it(i would suggest putting this information in the question) if you want a list of everything i had to replace before i got mine running right again then just ask but im not trying to scare you...hopefully you could have an easy fix!

Sensor Problems...

i would suggest taking it to an autozone, or checkers, or advance auto parts store and have them do a free check engine light test, cuz it could be a sensor...you can do it yourself if you want...just put the key in the inginition and turn the key on (where the radio comes on) and off 5 times quickly but not extremely fast... with out turning the car on and then on the 5th time leave it on the on possition and watch the light and count how many times it flashes...

Leak
but the way its heating up id say you probally have an oil leak somewhere...pop the hood and take a look around the oil filter, around the head and oil pan,

Id be happy to help you out with any questions you have because i know how it feels to be where your at!
