Up until 1800, for fourteen hundred years, there is no disputing that the Catholic Church, the Vatican was the single largest and wealthiest economic entity in the world- controlling massive land holdings, huge gold stock piles, multiple treasuries, priceless art and even its own armies and government.

For example, see:

However, since the end of the 19th Cent. from the time of Napoleon and the rise of the private and secret banking industry, the position of the Vatican as the no1. largest economic entity has disappeared from public view.

So just how wealthy is the Vatican? Is it still the largest economic entity in the world? how is it able to still keep its incredible wealth hidden? and why? why if it is a force for good does it still keep its wealth hidden?

Let's just put it this way ... when the Federal Reserve needs a bail-out, they go to Italy.

When the EU is in an economic slump, and they don't have the funds available to spend their way out of it, they never fail to go to "church".

When the oil sheiks run into cash flow problems, they have no problem turning "Catholic".

Those monthly stipend checks from the Vatican sure go a long way when you have a big, Catholic family, too!

God is good.

the Vatican is priceless, there cannot be a number value assigned to it. They tried to do an insurance apprasial of just St. Peter's Basillica a few years ago and part way through the adjusters just put down their clipboards and walked away, there is literally no amount of money on earth, all the money on earth that could match the Vaticans wealth.

However for the fact that it is priceless they are cash poor but the bank is run by the prefecture for economic affairs, you can find their address and phone number on the Vatican website.

It's cash is not hidden but rather it is in several different projects all of which provide accounting you just have to go to those offices to get the accountings.

I don't think you can put an amount of wealth that is in the Vatican.

How much is the Sistine Chapel worth? Or the thousands of other priceless works of art that the Vatican owns?

That is a da*n good question! I have no idea but I bet one big source of their wealth would be land holdings around the world. Another would be donations...?
