pick out something nice and something that shows your lady's characteristics. go to jewelery stores and get price ranges for what you'd like her to have. mine was 2,000 and really pretty and simple. a few thousand should be good! but really it's what you feel is the best for your wife-to-be!

Traditionally, an engagment ring is supposed to be 2 months of the groom's salary. But since people are more practical these days, this rule is sadly forgotten.
The average engagement ring is priced at $3-$4,000 but don't feel compelled to go with the flow. Too save money, why not try a family engagment ring, ebay, or a vintage ring. But watch out for scams, get everything in print, and keep in mind that vintage rings may be made of more fragile materials.

Firstly, don't believe the junk about spending two months' salary; it's just marketing hype.
Spend whatever you can comfortably afford -don't go into debt over a ring. You can get really nice rings for a few hundred dollars - yellow gold, nice diamonds. The "average" price of an engagement ring is around $800. Any mature woman would be happy with ANY ring, as it is a symbol of the promise leading to marriage. She will care more about the QUESTION!

There is no ideal price for an engagement ring. It is based on what you can comfortably afford. Although your fiance will want a ring to be proud of that she can show off to her friends, you need to be practical at the same time. You are going to have many expenses coming up when you get married. I would say the ideal price range depending upon what other commitments you have would be $800 to $1,000.

You know, the "standard answer" is that you pay 2 months salary for an engagement ring, but really - why ? What's an engagement all about except getting to know each other and planning for the wedding.....? And what's more important: the ring on a finger or the security of the marriage ? $30K is not much money and living on that plus preparing for the future on that kind of income takes a LOT of economizing.

I don't know if your fiance expects you to put a "statement" on her finger, but why don't you sit down and have a long talk about what the future means to the two of you.... what you want and what you two will need to do to achieve it. Chances are that a diamond will pale in comparison to your joint future.

Ask her if she would be happy with a cubic ziconia for now and then, when you two reach your 20th anniversary, you will replace it with a real diamond if she still wants one.

They say the typical price is 2 months salary.

Don't fall for that.

In reality, jewelery vendors tend to jack up the prices on engagment rings. Take a tip from me, I got a beautiful ring for my fiancee that is legit and she loves it. Plus I didn't have to deal with jeweler store prices.

Buy the diamond and the setting seperatly. You can typically find a 1 karot diamond for as little as $900. A good setting could cost as little as $400. Shop with a woman, or someone who knows diamonds very well. You may even be able to take a gamble and find a good diamond at an auction. Just keep in mind the color, karot, cut, and clarity of the stone. And yes, it does matter (I'd give you specifics, but I forgot them, my friend told me everything I needed to know).

If you do your research and find a shopping buddy you can find a dynamite stone and setting. Getting a jeweler to put the stone in place shouldn't take more than a day or more than $80.

Hey, The price of an engagement ring? Thats hard with out knowing the lady in question, but ill put it like this: Dont spend so much that you cant make your wedding the most special day of your lives, but make its special in the fact that your lady would never have spent that amount on a ring and never will.......After all its ment as a promise...

They say it should equal 3 months salary.. But that seems a bit much !!!

Try to ask her in a generic way - ask your lady what matters more to her - size or quality? That's what they asked me at the jewelers.. I said quality.. My ring cost $1,300 and the diamond is fairly small but DAMN does it sparkle.. But I know some women would rather have a duller, large diamond.. Hopefully you can find a way to ask her without seeming too obvious! For example, would you rather have a huge mansion with hardly any furniture inside or a small apartment but with a huge plasma TV, lots of nice furniture, fancy hot tub, etc. etc.

Just be sure that you get it with an insurance policy and from a good, reputable place, and that she can be proud of it to show it off to her friends. No woman wants to have a ring she can't be proud of.

You dont have to spend a lot of money. Look for something nice, something she will like. I doesnt have to have the biggest rock. My sister got a really nice engagement ring that actually had a cubic zirconia as the main rock and had 4 real diamonds on each side of that. Well for their 4 year aniversary this past February, her husband took the ring to the jeweler and had them change out the fake diamond for a real one. This is her ring...

So you can get her the nice ring and then upgrade later on.

I personally love, love, love the classic, sleek simple band with one diamond on top.

But she may like something a little different.

If she loves you, it won't matter to her how much you spent and if she asks don't tell her the price! I did ask and i was a little- no a lot, surprised to find out some months later that he's still paying on it and will be for the next year!!!
