actually if you go onto a martial arts website to purchase, they are called nunchaku.
nun·cha·ku (nn-chäk) or nun·chuck (nnchk) or num·chuck (nm-)
n.
A pair of hardwood sticks joined by a chain or cord and used as a weapon. Often used in the plural.
I hope that this helps.

nunchucks if you are normal but just don't pronounce it right.
nuMchucks if you are a redneck.
Nunchaku is the way it is pronounced but it is acceptable to say "nunchucks" to avoid bieng a japanophile.

Neither. The proper spelling is "nunchaku," and it can be pronounced a variety of ways in America because we're Asian-illiterate. Let's see, I've heard "noonchackoo," "nunchacka," I've even heard maybe three people get the Japanese/Okinawan pronunciation right. XD

Nunchaku were made to represent chuck norris' legs. thats where the chak (pronounced "chuck") comes from. Nun = twin, chak= Chuck, u= Legs.
not really, but was fun making it up it.
